Gianetti has delivered ONeiro I, a 38.5-metre motor yacht built entirely in aluminium. The Viareggio yard’s delivery was reported on 5 November by BOAT International and by the Italian trade site SUPER YACHT 24. She has a beam of 8.1 metres and a volume of 340 GT, and she sleeps up to 10 guests in five cabins. Twin Caterpillar engines of 1,300 hp each give her a top speed of 16 knots. She was launched in July. For SUPER YACHT 24, the delivery marks something larger than one yacht: the yard’s return to custom superyachts.
38.5 metres, 340 GT and five cabins for 10 guests
ONeiro I was known during the build as Project 401. Her hull and superstructure are aluminium, the lighter of the two metals used in yacht building. BOAT International gives the details. The accommodation is “arranged across a five-cabin layout for up to 10 guests”. The engines are twin Caterpillar C32 ACERT diesels of 1,300 hp, and the yacht is classed by Bureau Veritas. Top speed is 16 knots, and SUPER YACHT 24 gives an economical cruising speed of 10 knots. Her original design is by Tommaso Spadolini, according to BOAT International. No interior designer is named in either report.
She went into the water in July. BOAT International notes that her construction was kept notably private, and neither report says where or on which day she was handed over. A few months from launch to delivery is the part of the timeline that is on the record.
A Viareggio yard back in the superyacht segment
SUPER YACHT 24 puts the delivery in one sentence. “Con il varo e la consegna del 38 metri Oneiro I, il cantiere Gianetti ritorna nel segmento dei superyacht custom,” it writes: with the launch and delivery of ONeiro I, the Gianetti yard returns to the custom superyacht segment. The yard told the site it does not build in series and does not chase big numbers. That is the profile of a small custom builder. It takes on few projects and builds each one to order.
Viareggio is crowded with yards, large and small. Benetti was founded there in 1873, and in September it showed its 70-metre Project Clear Waves at Monaco, as in our report on Clear Waves. Gianetti works at a different scale. ONeiro I is about half that length, built in aluminium and to order. It is the second Italian yacht story of the week on luxury.it, after Antonini Navi launched the 31.2-metre Hanaa in La Spezia, as in our report on Hanaa.
The Luxury.it perspective
Most of the autumn’s yacht news has been about size: 70 metres at Benetti, a hall for 100-metre hulls at Ferretti in Ancona, as in our report on the Ancona yard. ONeiro I is the other side of the Italian industry. A 38.5-metre aluminium yacht, 10 guests, 16 knots, from a Viareggio builder that says it does not chase numbers. For owners who want a yacht of this size built to order, that is the point. The delivery puts Gianetti back on the list of Italian names to know in custom yachts.
