Riserva Rooftop gives Naples a dining room with the Campi Flegrei as its backdrop, but Italian furniture does much of the work indoors. Pambianco Design revisited the Riflessi collaboration on 14 September. It is a useful reason to look past the usual photograph of a drink against the bay.
This is an established address, not a new opening. Riserva began in 2019; its own history dates the addition of the Sky Lounge to 2023. For someone planning an evening, the distinction between that lounge and the restaurant is more useful than a general promise of rooftop glamour.
The room has to work after the view disappears
Architect Mario Sorrentino, who designed the venue when it opened in 2019, draws on a continuing relationship with Riflessi. The furniture specification includes custom-sized tables with Canaletto walnut tops and taller Shangai XL tables with ceramic surfaces. Warm metallic finishes sit alongside a mixture of upholstered seating rather than a single chair repeated everywhere.
Riflessi supplied Shanghai XL tables on Canaletto walnut bases, Sofia and Carmen chairs, an Onda credenza turned into the reception desk. The effect of a scheme like that depends on proportion. A taller table changes how guests sit and look out. An upholstered chair holds people longer than a bar stool does. Materials also determine whether a space still feels inviting after the panorama has become a few points of light.
That is where a design-led restaurant earns its place. A view can bring the first reservation. The room still has to hold the party through dinner, when the windows stop supplying all the interest. At Riserva, the furniture story is substantial enough to merit attention independently of the coastline.
Pambianco reported the furnishings on 14 September. The terrace itself has been open since 2019. The design is the subject of today’s report, and not a new date in the restaurant’s operating history.
Restaurant or Sky Lounge?
The restaurant and braceria offers the fuller dining brief, including grilled meat and a menu that moves between Italian regional traditions. The Sky Lounge has its own bistrot offer, cocktails and wine, with live music also part of its advertised identity.
The Sky Lounge Martini opened in 2023 on a second terrace, with its own menu and its own bar team. Choose the restaurant when the meal is the main appointment. Enquire about the lounge when the room, drinks and a less formally structured evening are the attraction. The presence of food in both spaces does not make the menus interchangeable.
Worth resolving before a celebration. The number is +39 081 6125267. An enquiry for “the rooftop” may communicate a view without communicating the evening. Send four things. The date, the party size, and which of three evenings you want: a dinner of several courses, a lounge table with food, or drinks after a meal elsewhere.
A menu with room for more than steak
The official English restaurant menu includes fried pizza bites at €17, linguine alla Nerano at €22 and bucatini all’ischitana at €19. These are examples checked on 14 September, and neither a set menu nor the price of a complete dinner.
They help correct a possible misunderstanding created by the word braceria. Grilled meat is part of the identity, but pasta and regional dishes give a mixed party other directions to follow. The choice can stay recognisably Italian without obliging every guest to order a large cut of beef.
Decide the meal’s centre before ordering several substantial dishes: a pasta-led dinner, a shared meat course or a sequence selected more freely. The setting already supplies ceremony; the order need not supply excess. Drinks and other charges should be checked separately, and the restaurant menu should not be used to price a Sky Lounge reservation.
Reserve the light as carefully as the table
Davide Cannavale cooks a menu that rotates by Italian region roughly every three months. A photograph of the terrace tells a guest none of that, and nor does it say when service begins. Service runs from eight in the evening. Anyone coming for the light should check sunset on the chosen date against that. An evening opening does not automatically provide a daylight sitting, especially later in the year.
The same principle applies to the table itself. Request the intended space, confirm whether it is indoors or outside and establish the alternative in unsuitable weather. These are sensible questions for any exposed dining setting, not evidence of a problem at Riserva.
Posillipo is not central Naples. Treat this as a deliberate dinner appointment, never a stop squeezed between two others. Give the room time to change from the first arrival to the later part of the evening.
The appeal is the combination
Riserva works when three things stay in balance. Italian furniture, a view that belongs unmistakably to Naples, and a menu broad enough to serve a real dinner. Remove the food and the room becomes a lookout. Ignore the design and it becomes another restaurant competing on the same horizon.
Luxury.it perspective
Seven years is a long time for a rooftop.
A rooftop with a view is the easiest restaurant in the world to open and the hardest to keep.
Riserva has had that long to work out what happens when the view goes, and the answer it has reached is the right one, which is to keep spending money on the room itself rather than on another photograph of the horizon, because a terrace that only works between seven and nine in July is a terrace that is closed for most of the year in everything but name. Sorrentino has been on the project since 2019. The Sky Lounge added a second terrace in 2023. The Riflessi fit-out is the third move in the same direction, which matters because the Campi Flegrei disappear at nine o’clock in November and something has to be left.
Book the restaurant for dinner and the lounge for the hour before it. They are two different evenings on the same roof.
