The first restaurant in Porto Cervo opened at Porto Vecchio in 1960. Langosteria has just taken its place.
That is what makes this more interesting than a normal summer opening. In the wrong hands, Costa Smeralda can make every brand look obvious: take a Milanese restaurant, move it to the coast, add sea views, charge properly, wait for the yachts. That is not enough anymore.
Langosteria Porto Cervo works because the location carries weight.
The restaurant has opened at Porto Vecchio, in the same place where Il Pescatore, the first restaurant in Porto Cervo, opened in 1960. Costa Smeralda’s official coverage describes Langosteria as the resort’s only pieds-dans-l’eau restaurant, with two terraces joined by a walkway and wide sea views.
That changes the story. This is not Milan simply going to Sardinia. It is one of Italy’s most recognisable seafood brands entering the original dining memory of Porto Cervo.
Why the location matters
Porto Vecchio is not just a convenient waterfront position.
It is part of the Costa Smeralda myth. Porto Cervo was not built like a normal village; it was designed as an idea of Mediterranean leisure, with architecture, marinas, restaurants and social ritual arranged into a new language of summer. A restaurant in the wrong place can feel like an accessory. A restaurant at Porto Vecchio has to carry more.
Langosteria understands the value of place better than many hospitality brands. Paraggi made sense because Liguria gave the brand sea, boats and a Riviera mood. St. Moritz made sense because the brand could become a winter room for a certain international clientele. Porto Cervo makes sense because the yachts, sea, open-air dining and luxury habit are already there.
The test is whether the restaurant can add something without flattening the territory.
The only pieds-dans-l’eau restaurant in Porto Cervo
That phrase matters.
Porto Cervo has many restaurants with a view, a terrace, a marina atmosphere or a summer crowd. But a proper pieds-dans-l’eau restaurant gives something more specific: the feeling that the table and the sea are not separated by too much ceremony.
Langosteria’s own Porto Cervo page presents the restaurant as right at sea, with dishes available for collection every day and the location reachable by tender. Orders for takeaway must be placed by the previous day, according to the official page.
That detail is more important than it looks. A restaurant reachable by tender and offering food for collection becomes part of the yacht day, not only the dinner map. In Porto Cervo, that is exactly where the opportunity sits: between restaurant, marina, boat, villa and hotel.
The strongest Costa Smeralda addresses are not only places to eat. They are ways to move through the coast.
Why Langosteria fits Costa Smeralda
Langosteria’s strength has always been a certain controlled abundance.
Seafood, crudo, pasta, wine, polished service, a room that feels expensive without needing to pretend it is a temple. It is not austere fine dining. It is not rustic authenticity. It is metropolitan seafood luxury with enough consistency to travel.
That can be dangerous in Sardinia. Costa Smeralda does not reward an imported brand that ignores the island around it. But Langosteria has a better chance than most because its language is already maritime. It does not have to invent a connection to the sea. It simply has to avoid behaving as if Sardinia were only a backdrop.
The best version of Langosteria Porto Cervo will not try to become a Sardinian trattoria. It will be Langosteria, placed correctly on Sardinian water. That is enough.
The Smeralda Holding signal
The partnership also says something about Porto Cervo’s next phase.
Italian trade coverage reported that Langosteria opened in Porto Cervo in partnership with Smeralda Holding, alongside Ally’s Bar, and described it as part of a double opening that also included London. Pambianco also noted that Porto Cervo is one of the most sought-after locations in Sardinia’s 2026 restaurant season, with Langosteria arriving alongside other high-end names and concepts.
That matters because Costa Smeralda is refreshing its food scene. The old model was simple: established hotel restaurants, yacht-club tables, a few famous names, some nightlife and a lot of expensive repetition. Now the coast is becoming more competitive. Paper Moon, Vesta, Zuma, DaV at Romazzino, Langosteria, beach-club dining and resort pop-ups all point in the same direction.
Porto Cervo is trying to become a more serious restaurant destination, not only a place where people eat because they are already there. Langosteria is one of the strongest moves in that direction.
Who arrives by tender
Langosteria Porto Cervo is for the guest who wants a polished seafood dinner with a real sense of place.
It suits yacht guests, hotel guests, villa guests, couples, families with older children, and anyone who wants Porto Cervo without turning dinner into a nightclub prelude. It is also useful for people who want the confidence of a known brand in a destination where the wrong table can become very expensive very quickly.
Book it if the evening needs seafood, sea view, service and a room that understands summer money without needing to shout.
Avoid it if you want a small quiet Sardinian table, countryside cooking or a casual low-pressure dinner. This is not that.
Langosteria or Paper Moon?
Paper Moon and Langosteria are not the same decision.
Paper Moon is the Milanese social room in Porto Cervo form. Langosteria is the seafood-waterfront answer. Paper Moon makes sense when the evening is about atmosphere, table energy and a known international dining code. Langosteria makes sense when the sea should be present and the meal should feel more directly connected to the coast.
The mistake is treating every Porto Cervo restaurant as interchangeable. They are not, as our guide to the Costa Smeralda table sets out address by address. Book by evening, not by name.
Luxury.it perspective
Langosteria Porto Cervo matters because it gives Costa Smeralda something it should already have had more of: a serious, contemporary, water-level restaurant that understands yachts, dinner, brand confidence and location at the same time. The strongest part is not that Langosteria arrived. The strongest part is where it arrived. Porto Vecchio gives the restaurant historical weight. The sea gives it purpose. Tender access gives it modern Porto Cervo logic. The brand gives it consistency. Famous names are the easy part on this coast. Knowing why you are there is not.
