Amalfi Coast in October 2026: the 19 hotels and starred tables still open

By Alessandro ContiSeptember 27, 20268 min readOpenings Desk

The last hydrofoil from Positano to Capri runs on 3 November, and the Amalfi Coast season ends with it. Between now and then come five weeks that the summer never shows: Il San Pietro, Le Sirenuse and Borgo Santandrea still open, a dozen starred kitchens cooking for half-empty rooms, Ravello without a queue at Villa Rufolo, and the coast road on a weekday with the plates rule lifted. Then the hotels close, one by one, on dates almost none of them prints, and on 1 November Naples airport shuts for a month of runway works. Here is what the hotels and restaurants publish about their last nights, what is open in Ravello, Capri and Sorrento, and how to use the five weeks that are left.

Hotels: the season as they publish it

Almost no hotel on the coast prints its closing day. What they publish is the season, and the Michelin Guide’s hotel pages, which the hotels supply, add a line for most of them. Il San Pietro di Positano, three Keys and 57 rooms, says on its own site that it is “generally open from April to October”. Le Sirenuse, 58 rooms and one Key, is open from April through October according to its Michelin page, and Casa Angelina at Praiano, 36 rooms after a reduction from 44, from mid-March through October. Santa Caterina at Amalfi, two Keys, gives the same mid-March to October season; Caruso, the Belmond hotel at Ravello with 50 rooms and suites, April through October; Punta Tragara on Capri, April through October. Palazzo Avino at Ravello, which reopened on 3 April, says that Rossellinis, its starred restaurant, is closed from November to March and that its Clubhouse by the Sea runs from 1 May to October. Furore Grand Hotel, 35 rooms above the fjord, writes that it welcomes guests until the end of October. Two houses buck the pattern. Bellevue Syrene in Sorrento, two Keys, is open from March to 3 January, and the Anantara Convento di Amalfi, 52 rooms in the former Capuchin monastery, states no seasonal closure at all. For Borgo Santandrea, promoted to three Keys on 18 September with its 31 rooms and 21 suites at Conca dei Marini, for Villa Treville, Monastero Santa Rosa, J.K. Place Capri and Capri Palace, which reopened on 16 April, no season line is published, and the booking engine is the only calendar. The rule for October is to book the hotel and then ask the hotel for its last night.

The starred tables still cooking

The coast has more stars per kilometre in October than in any other month, because the kitchens are open and the tables are not. Alois Vanlangenaeker’s Zass at Il San Pietro holds one star, as do Giuseppe Stanzione’s Glicine at Santa Caterina, dinner only, Gianni Vanacore’s Rossellinis at Palazzo Avino, Alfonso Crescenzo’s Il Refettorio at Monastero Santa Rosa, Crescenzo Scotti’s Alici at Borgo Santandrea, Lorenzo Montoro’s Il Flauto di Pan at Villa Cimbrone, Leopoldo Elefante’s Un Piano nel Cielo at Casa Angelina, Li Galli at Villa Franca, Bluh Furore at the Furore Grand Hotel and La Caravella in Amalfi. Don Alfonso 1890 at Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi, one star, is open from early April to the end of October, for dinner from Wednesday to Sunday and for lunch from Friday to Sunday. On Capri, Le Monzù at Punta Tragara has a star and L’Olivo at the Capri Palace has two; in Sorrento, Terrazza Bosquet at the Excelsior Vittoria has one, and the Bellevue Syrene began a new gastronomic season on 17 September with Gennaro Esposito of the two-star Torre del Saracino. Above them all, Quattro Passi at Nerano holds three. La Sponda at Le Sirenuse serves dinner seven nights a week. Il Riccio at Anacapri serves lunch only. Da Paolino, under the lemon trees on Capri, closed last year on 20 October and has not yet published its 2026 dates. The starred houses close with their hotels, and none of them prints the day, so the last table of the season is booked by telephone.

Ravello in late October

Ravello is the coast’s October town. The Ravello Festival closed on 5 September and the Fondazione’s William Kentridge exhibition closes today, 27 September; the foundation’s calendar shows no autumn programme, and the town goes quiet, which is the point. Palazzo Avino, 43 rooms with ten suites, keeps Rossellinis open for dinner until the end of October and its Clubhouse by the Sea until the same month. Caruso, the Belmond house with 50 rooms and suites and the Villa Margherita, lists its restaurant as Il Pantaleone, under Armando Aristarco, alongside the Caruso Grill and the Adagio Bar. Villa Cimbrone, 19 rooms, serves Il Flauto di Pan every evening from 7:30, with the gardens and the Terrace of Infinity to itself once the day visitors have gone. The view from Villa Rufolo, which the Ravello Festival stage borrows every summer, is the one on this page’s photograph, and in the last week of October it is possible to have it alone.

Capri and Sorrento: the last crossings

The sea has the clearest dates on the coast. NLG’s seasonal lines from Positano, Amalfi and Salerno to Capri run “from 1 April to 3 November 2026”, and Alilauro’s Salerno to Capri service has the same last day; Positano Jet’s timetable to Capri runs to 31 October, and Gescab’s Positano to Capri jets, four a day since April, give no end date. The Capri landing fee falls from 5 euros to 2.50 on 1 November, which is the island’s own way of saying the season is over. After 3 November the island is reached from Naples, where SNAV’s hydrofoils run every day of the year, or from Sorrento. On the island itself, Capri Palace Jumeirah reopened on 16 April with 72 rooms, two Keys and L’Olivo’s two stars, J.K. Place has three Keys and 22 rooms, Punta Tragara publishes an April to October season, and Caesar Augustus at Anacapri, 56 rooms, publishes none. Sorrento is the coast’s winter town. Bellevue Syrene stays open to 3 January with Gennaro Esposito’s new season in its kitchen, and the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria, one Key, with Terrazza Bosquet’s star, is the other house a November traveller can count on.

November: a different coast

This year November has an extra reason to be quiet. Naples Capodichino will be closed for the whole month for the resurfacing of its runway, as GESAC, the operator, has announced, with the dates reported as 1 to 30 November; nine airlines, ITA Airways among them, move their November flights to Salerno Costa d’Amalfi, and a car from that airport reaches Amalfi in about 45 minutes, faster than the coast has ever been reached from Capodichino. It lands on a coast where most of the houses on the table above have closed. What stays open in November is the Sorrento peninsula, the Anantara in Amalfi, Travelmar’s year-round boats along the coast from Salerno, and, from 14 November to 1 February, Salerno’s Luci d’Artista, the winter light installations that give the Salerno side of the coast its own season.

How to use the last five weeks

Come on a weekday. The weekend alternate-plate rule on the coast road runs until Saturday 31 October, hotel guests are exempt on their arrival and departure days, and a driver from the hotel makes the question disappear. Book the hotel and ask for its final night in writing; book the restaurant the same day, because the starred kitchens close when the hotels do. Do Capri from Positano or Amalfi before 3 November and from Naples or Sorrento after it. Keep Ravello for the last week of October, when Rossellinis is still serving and Villa Rufolo is empty, and if the trip runs into November, stay at the Bellevue Syrene or the Anantara and let the coast be closed around you. Borgo Santandrea’s first autumn with three Keys is the booking of the season for anyone who has not seen the house; it publishes no closing date, so the telephone comes first.

The Luxury.it perspective

The Amalfi Coast is a seasonal machine that pretends not to be one. Its hotels publish a season and not a date, its ferries publish a date and not a season, and the gap between the two is where October lives. That vagueness is part of the charm in July. In October it is the whole game. The traveller who reads the calendar gets Positano without the crowds, Ravello without the queue at Villa Rufolo and a starred dinner at a table that will not exist in three weeks. The 3 November date for the last Capri hydrofoil from Positano and the 1 November closure of Naples airport give the 2026 season an ending it has never had, a full stop after five weeks that are, by any measure that matters to this magazine, the best of the year.
