The line between hotel and yacht is becoming more interesting. Orient Express Corinthian sits exactly on that line.
Scheduled to begin sailing in 2026, the vessel has been described by Orient Express as the world’s largest sailing yacht, with routes through the Mediterranean and Adriatic.
A new kind of luxury at sea
For years, luxury at sea has been divided into two categories: private yacht charters and high-end cruises. Orient Express Corinthian suggests a third possibility: a floating grand hotel with the design, service and romance of a travel legend.
This is important because affluent travellers are increasingly looking for journeys that feel private, cinematic and structured without requiring full yacht ownership or charter complexity.
The Riviera and Adriatic as stage
The announced routes trace the French and Italian Rivieras, the Mediterranean and the Adriatic. That geography matters. These are not anonymous cruise waters. They are some of Europe’s most emotionally loaded coastlines: Portofino, Capri, Venice, Corsica, Croatia, the Côte d’Azur.
A sailing yacht format makes those routes feel more intimate than a conventional ship.
Why it matters
Luxury travel is moving toward hybrid experiences. Hotels are launching residences. Fashion brands are entering hospitality. Restaurants are becoming destinations. Yachts are becoming hotels.
Orient Express Corinthian is part of that movement. It takes the romance of historic travel and translates it into a maritime product for a new generation.
Luxury.it perspective
This is not a replacement for private yacht charter. It is a different proposition: elegant, programmed, high-design and easier to access. For many luxury travellers, that may be exactly the point.
