Rocco Forte Porto Cervo Adds Another Major Luxury Name to Sardinia

By The Openings DeskJune 24, 20262 min read

Costa Smeralda is not simply returning to the luxury map. It is being rewritten by some of the biggest names in European hospitality.

Rocco Forte Hotels is set to add a Porto Cervo property in 2026, placing the group on Sardinia’s north-east coast near the bay of Liscia di Vacca.

Why this opening matters

Rocco Forte is not a random arrival. The brand has built its identity around European elegance, strong local references, polished service and properties that feel tied to their cities or landscapes.

In Sardinia, that approach has obvious potential. Costa Smeralda is already a destination where place matters intensely: granite, sea, villas, boats, clubs, summer rituals and a very specific social code.

A Rocco Forte resort can translate that world for a traveller who wants Sardinia with polish but not necessarily flash.

Porto Cervo’s next phase

The important story is the cluster effect. Mandarin Oriental, W Hotels and Rocco Forte are all part of a broader Sardinian luxury momentum. When multiple global or European luxury hospitality groups move into the same destination, it usually changes the market beyond hotels.

Restaurants improve. Beach clubs reposition. Villa agencies become more professional. Private aviation and yacht services become more integrated. The whole destination becomes more legible to international wealth.

Why Sardinia is attractive now

Costa Smeralda has what luxury travellers want in 2026: Mediterranean coastline, strong summer identity, yacht infrastructure, private villas, beach culture, relative privacy and emotional distance from overcrowded city tourism.

The challenge is seasonality. The opportunity is to make Sardinia feel like a longer luxury season, not only an August address.

Luxury.it perspective

Rocco Forte Porto Cervo should be watched as part of Sardinia’s transition from legendary summer destination to fully structured luxury hospitality market.
