The suite has been Porto Cervo’s default answer for sixty years. La Tiara di Cervo proposes a different one.
The project sits above Porto Cervo, in the hills, with a private-residence logic rather than a classic resort-hotel script. It is not trying to compete with Cala di Volpe, Romazzino or Pitrizza by repeating their codes. It is offering a different question: what if the high-end Costa Smeralda guest wants the service of a hotel but the rhythm of a private home?
La Tiara di Cervo opened in 2026 as a collection of 26 Grand Suites on the hills above Porto Cervo, with one to three-bedroom layouts, panoramic terraces and sea views. La Nuova Sardegna reported that the project is managed by Egnazia Ospitalità Italiana, the hospitality group founded by Aldo Melpignano, and that the property was hiring for the 2026 season.

Why Porto Cervo needed this
Porto Cervo has the hotels.
It has the marina, the boutiques, the restaurants, the yachts, the beach clubs, the villas, the old mythology and the new brands arriving every season. But many of its best-known hospitality addresses still belong to a classic hotel model: book the room, enter the ritual, use the beach, eat at the terrace, move through the social architecture of the property.
That model still works. But the very top of the market is changing.
Families want space. Guests with staff want privacy. Repeat visitors want kitchens they may barely use, terraces that feel like theirs, and a base that does not require walking through a lobby every time the day changes. They want service, but they do not always want the hotel performance.
La Tiara di Cervo enters that gap. Its 26 Grand Suites, with larger residential layouts and sea-view terraces, make sense for guests who want Porto Cervo without being absorbed by Porto Cervo, and they sit alongside the coast’s established hotel icons rather than against them.
The residential hotel is the new luxury format
The phrase residence hotel can sound dull. It is not.
At the high end, it is one of the most important hospitality formats in Europe right now. The classic suite is sometimes no longer enough. A family staying ten days in Costa Smeralda may need bedrooms, privacy, outdoor space, breakfast flexibility, staff support, laundry, terrace life and the option to entertain without turning everything into a hotel operation.
That is the promise of La Tiara di Cervo. Global Traveler described the property as 26 Grand Suites, each with one to three bedrooms, spacious living areas, oceanfront terraces, equipped kitchens, local produce, in-suite breakfast, concierge and private chef on request.
That is not a room category. It is a different way of using Costa Smeralda.
Why the hills matter
La Tiara di Cervo is not directly on the beach. That is not necessarily a weakness.
Costa Smeralda often becomes more interesting when you step slightly away from the water. The hills give views, air, silence, granite, distance from the marina and a more private sense of arrival. A guest can go to Porto Cervo, the beach clubs, La Maddalena, Cala di Volpe, Porto Rotondo or San Pantaleo, then return to a place that does not feel like another public stage.
This is the same reason San Pantaleo works for certain travellers. Not because it is more convenient than the coast. Because it lets the coast breathe.
A hillside residence model above Porto Cervo can do the same for a different level of guest.
Who the hills suit
La Tiara di Cervo is not for the traveller who wants the classic hotel beach ritual.
If you want the lobby, the beach club, the grand hotel breakfast, the recognisable pool scene and the historical Costa Smeralda stage, the older hotel icons may still be stronger.
La Tiara is better for families, longer stays, villa-minded guests, privacy seekers and travellers who want Porto Cervo without giving up domestic space. It also suits people who have already done the obvious Costa Smeralda hotels and now want a quieter base without losing access to the new tables arriving on the water.
That is a narrow client. It is also a very valuable one.
Luxury.it perspective
La Tiara di Cervo matters because it points to the next phase of Porto Cervo. Not more rooms. More control. The future of Costa Smeralda luxury will not be only beach clubs, hotel terraces and marina restaurants. It will also be private residences with hotel support, hillside retreats, large suites, chef-on-request dining and a sense that the guest has a temporary home rather than another room. Visibility has always been Porto Cervo’s currency. La Tiara di Cervo is interesting because it sells something else: the ability to step back from it.
