Michelin Keys 2026: all 82 three-key hotels in Europe, country by country

Europe has 82 hotels with three Michelin Keys in the 2026 selection published on 18 September. That is our count from the guide’s country lists, since Michelin publishes no single European table, and it is more than half of the 155 three-Key hotels in the world. France has 25, plus one in Monaco. Italy has 17. Switzerland has 10, Britain 9, Germany 6, Spain 5, and six more countries share the last nine. Eight hotels are new to the top grade this year, four of them Italian. Here is the complete list, country by country, with room counts from the guide’s own pages, and what changed.

How the 82 divide

The 2026 Key selection covers 2,832 hotels worldwide, 155 with three Keys, 657 with two and 2,020 with one, and Europe accounts for 1,338 of them across more than 35 destinations, according to Michelin’s announcement. Italy leads the continent with 224 Key hotels, France has 220, the United Kingdom 131, Germany 130, Spain 122, Switzerland 89, Greece 74, Austria 72 and Portugal 69. At the top grade the order changes. France’s 26 three-Key hotels, counting the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo that Michelin’s French list includes, are the largest national group in Europe; Italy’s 17 are next; Switzerland’s 10 put a country of nine million people third. Spain, with 122 Key hotels, has five at the top, and Greece, with 74, has one. The pattern says what the three-Key grade rewards: hotels that are destinations in themselves, and those cluster in Paris, on the Riviera, in the Alps, on Italy’s lakes and coasts and in the English countryside.

The eight new three-Key hotels

Four of the eight are Italian, and we set them out last week in our guide to Italy’s 17: Borgo Santandrea at Conca dei Marini on the Amalfi Coast and the Splendido at Portofino, both promoted from two Keys; Collegio alla Querce, the Auberge Collection hotel in Florence; and Airelles Palladio on the Giudecca in Venice, which entered at three Keys in its opening year and took the guide’s Opening of the Year award. France adds two, both promotions in the south: Château de la Chèvre d’Or at Èze, on the Riviera between Nice and Monaco, and Le Couvent des Minimes at Mane, in Haute-Provence. Switzerland adds two: the Beau-Rivage Palace in Lausanne, 168 rooms on Lake Geneva, and the Kulm Hotel St. Moritz, 150 rooms, which gives St. Moritz three three-Key hotels with Badrutt’s Palace and the Carlton. One movement goes the other way. Beau-Rivage Genève, three Keys in 2025, is listed with two in 2026. Germany’s six, Austria’s two, Britain’s nine and Ireland’s two are all carried over from last year, and two of Michelin’s four special awards for 2026 stayed in Europe: Airelles Palladio’s Opening of the Year and the Wellness award for Schloss Elmau, in Bavaria.

France: nine in Paris, nine in the south, three in the Alps

Paris holds nine of France’s 25: Cheval Blanc Paris, the Four Seasons George V, La Réserve Paris, Le Bristol, Le Meurice, Le Plaza Athénée, Maison Villeroy with its 11 rooms, the Ritz and Saint James Paris. Versailles adds Airelles Château de Versailles, Le Grand Contrôle, 13 rooms inside the palace grounds. The south has nine: on the Riviera, the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc at Antibes, the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat and the newly promoted Chèvre d’Or at Èze; between Saint-Tropez and Bandol, La Réserve Ramatuelle and the Hôtel and Spa du Castellet; in Provence, Airelles Gordes La Bastide, Baumanière at Les Baux, Villa La Coste near Aix and Le Couvent des Minimes at Mane. The Alps have three, Cheval Blanc Courchevel, Le K2 Palace and the Four Seasons Megève, and the wine regions three more: Domaine Les Crayères at Reims, the Royal Champagne above Épernay and Les Sources de Caudalie at Martillac, outside Bordeaux. Monaco’s Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, 209 rooms, is the principality’s only three-Key hotel, and Michelin counts it inside its French selection of 26 three-Key, 39 two-Key and 155 one-Key hotels.

Italy: 17, and Venice first

Italy’s 17 are led by Venice with three, Airelles Palladio, Aman Venice and the Cipriani, and Florence with two, the Four Seasons Hotel Firenze and Collegio alla Querce. Rome has the Bvlgari Hotel Roma, Portofino the Splendido, Lake Como Passalacqua, Taormina the San Domenico Palace, Capri J.K. Place, Positano Il San Pietro, the Amalfi Coast Borgo Santandrea, Modena Casa Maria Luigia, Tuscany Castiglion del Bosco at Montalcino and Borgo Santo Pietro at Chiusdino, Umbria Reschio, and Civita di Bagnoregio the smallest hotel on the entire European list, Corte della Maestà, with five rooms. Michelin’s Italian selection runs to 17 three-Key, 49 two-Key and 158 one-Key hotels, and 34 of the one-Key hotels are new this year.

Switzerland 10, Germany 6, Austria 2

Switzerland’s ten are the densest group on the list for the size of the country. St. Moritz has three: Badrutt’s Palace, the Carlton and, from this year, the Kulm. Geneva and Lausanne face each other across the lake with The Woodward, Auberge Collection, 26 rooms, and the Beau-Rivage Palace. Zurich has the Baur au Lac, Basel Les Trois Rois, Gstaad The Alpina, Bad Ragaz the Grand Resort with 247 rooms, and the Bürgenstock resort above Lake Lucerne completes the ten. Germany’s six are unchanged: two in Hamburg, the Fairmont Vier Jahreszeiten and The Fontenay; two in Baiersbronn in the Black Forest, Hotel Bareiss and Traube Tonbach, one village with two three-Key hotels; Schloss Elmau in Bavaria, this year’s Wellness award; and the Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt on the Tegernsee. Austria’s two are the Sacher in Vienna and Rosewood Schloss Fuschl near Salzburg.

Britain 9, Ireland 2, Spain 5, and four countries with one or two

Six of Britain’s nine are in London: Claridge’s, The Connaught, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, The Peninsula London, Raffles London at The OWO and The Savoy. The three outside are country houses: Lucknam Park near Bath, The Newt in Somerset with 40 rooms, and Gleneagles in Perthshire with 222. Ireland has Adare Manor and Ballyfin Demesne, 20 rooms in a Regency house in County Laois. Michelin gives Great Britain and Ireland together 11 three-Key, 47 two-Key and 92 one-Key hotels, with 18 newly awarded this year, none at the top grade. Spain’s five are not where a visitor might guess. None is in Barcelona, on the Costa del Sol or in the Balearics; Madrid has the Mandarin Oriental Ritz, and the other four are wine and countryside hotels, Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine at Sardón de Duero, Atrio in Cáceres, Terra Dominicata in the Priorat and Torre del Marqués in the province of Teruel. Portugal has Penha Longa at Sintra and Vila Vita Parc in the Algarve. Greece has one, the Four Seasons Astir Palace on the Athens Riviera, with 303 rooms the largest hotel on the list; Croatia one, Villa Nai 3.3 on Dugi Otok, with eight rooms; and the Netherlands one, De L’Europe in Amsterdam.

The full list, country by country

Every hotel below was checked on its own page in the Michelin Guide on 26 September 2026, where the room count comes from. Names follow the guide’s spelling on those pages, which differs in places from Michelin’s own country articles. “Retained” means the hotel held three Keys in 2025 and holds them again.

What three Keys measure

A Key is not a star, and the two are awarded by different inspectors on different criteria. The guide’s five for hotels are the architecture and interior design, the quality and consistency of the service, the hotel’s personality, its value for the price and what it adds to the place around it, and three Keys are the grade the guide describes as an extraordinary stay. The 2026 selection added 470 Key hotels worldwide and promoted more than 80, and the hotel selection behind it now runs to about 9,400 addresses. Two numbers to keep in mind when reading the table: a three-Key hotel can have five rooms or 303, and the grade is given to a farmhouse and to a palace on the same terms.

The Luxury.it perspective

Eighty-two hotels is a short list for a continent, and its shape is worth more than any single entry. Paris and its palaces hold nine, London six, Venice and St. Moritz three each. Outside the cities, the three-Key grade goes to hotels that own their setting: a bay at Portofino, a cliff at Èze, a lake at Moltrasio, a vineyard at Sardón de Duero, a Black Forest valley with two of them. That is the guide’s real argument, and it explains why Spain’s 122 Key hotels produce five at the top and why Italy’s coasts and lakes produce more than any country except France. For a reader planning 2027, the useful reading is the eight new names, because a promotion is a verdict on the last twelve months rather than the last century: Borgo Santandrea, the Splendido, Collegio alla Querce, Airelles Palladio, the Chèvre d’Or, the Couvent des Minimes, the Beau-Rivage Palace and the Kulm. Four of the eight are Italian, and three of those four opened within the last five years. The list is old money in Paris and new work in Italy, which is how a list should read.
