Michelin Keys 2026: the 49 Italian hotels with two keys, and the 6 new names

By Alessandro ContiOctober 15, 20265 min readOpenings Desk

MICHELIN gave Two Keys to 49 Italian hotels in 2026, and six of them are new at that level. The full list is on the guide’s Italian site, published on 18 September, and it runs from Amalfi to Viareggio, with Milan counting more Two-Key hotels than any other town, six. Two Keys is the middle of the guide’s three levels for hotels. Italy has 17 hotels with Three Keys, 49 with Two and 158 with One, 224 in all. Here are the 49, town by town, the six new names, and the 34 hotels that entered with One Key this year.

Six new names at Two Keys, from Cernobbio to Matera

Six hotels are new at Two Keys in 2026, according to MICHELIN’s Italian list. Two of them move up from One Key: Villa d’Este at Cernobbio, on Lake Como, and Splendido Mare, A Belmond Hotel, in Portofino, both held One Key in the 2025 selection. The other four are The Carlton in Milan and Masseria Torre Maizza at Savelletri di Fasano, both Rocco Forte hotels, Villa Treville in Positano and Vetera Matera, the one name missing from our first report on the 2026 Keys. MICHELIN’s caption for Vetera Matera points to “il suo affaccio privilegiato sul Sasso Barisano”, its privileged view over the Sasso Barisano, one of the two ancient cave districts of the city.

Milan, Rome and Florence: the count by region

By our count, Lombardy leads with 11 Two-Key hotels: six in Milan, four on Lake Como, at Cernobbio, Menaggio, Torno and Tremezzo, and one on Lake Garda, at Limone. Tuscany follows with nine, three of them in Florence. Campania, Lazio, Sicily and Trentino-Alto Adige have five each, and all five in Lazio are in Rome. Puglia has three and the Veneto two, both in Venice. Liguria, Basilicata, the Aosta Valley and Umbria have one each. Among the groups, Rocco Forte holds Two Keys at five Italian hotels: The Carlton, Villa Igiea in Palermo, Hotel de Russie and Hotel de la Ville in Rome, and Masseria Torre Maizza. Belmond has four, Castello di Casole, Splendido Mare, Grand Hotel Timeo and Villa Sant’Andrea.

The 34 hotels that entered with One Key

MICHELIN also lists 34 hotels new at One Key in 2026. In the South they include Caesar Augustus at Anacapri, La Minerva and Punta Tragara in Capri, the Grand Hotel Parker’s in Naples, Bra Hotel in Bari, Leonardo Trulli Resort at Locorotondo, VISTA Ostuni and Torre Fiore Hotel Masseria at Pisticci. In Sicily there are Resort Fontes Episcopi at Aragona, Baglio Oneto at Marsala, Dimora delle Balze at Noto and The Ashbee Hotel in Taormina; in Sardinia, Palazzo Boyl 1840 in Cagliari, Romazzino, A Belmond Hotel, Costa Smeralda, at Porto Cervo, and Petra Segreta Resort & Spa at San Pantaleo. Rome has two, Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome and Corinthia Rome. Florence has The James Suite Hotel Firenze 1564, Venice has Orient Express Venezia, Milan has Casa Brera, a Luxury Collection Hotel, and Bologna the Grand Hotel Majestic. On the lakes, The Lake Como EDITION at Griante Cadenabbia and Boutique Hotel Stresa. In the Alps and the Dolomites: Ansitz Heufler by Norbert Niederkofler at Anterselva, Ancora Cortina at Cortina d’Ampezzo, Berghoferin Fine Hotel & Hideaway at Redagno, Castel Badia and Castel Maurn at San Lorenzo di Sebato, Sunny Valley Mountain Lodge at Santa Caterina Valfurva and Ansitz Steinbock at Villandro. The list closes with Certosa di Maggiano in Siena, Tenuta di Murlo in Perugia, Interno Marche at Tolentino and Relais Roncolo 1888 at Quattro Castella.

The Luxury.it perspective

Two Keys is the level to read closely. Three Keys is a short list of 17 famous houses; Two Keys is where the guide shows its range, from the grand hotels of Lake Como and Rome to a resort in the Aeolian Islands and I Borghi dell’Eremo in Umbria. For a trip planned around the list, start with the six new names. Vetera Matera is the one most readers will not yet have on their map, and it is a reason to give Matera two nights rather than one. Then look at the One-Key entries in the places you already know: the island of Capri alone has three new names, and the Alps and the Dolomites seven. MICHELIN revises the Keys every year, and we will update this list when the next selection is out.
