Mandarin Oriental Vienna, one of two new Two-Key hotels, occupies a restored 1908 Art Nouveau courthouse. The other is Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna Hotel, in a 19th-century building on the Ringstrasse. Both join Hotel Sacher Wien, at Three Keys, among the 14 MICHELIN Key hotels of Vienna for 2026: one at Three Keys, seven at Two and six at One, with 1,709 rooms between them by our count. Nine of the 14 stand in the first district or on the Ring. The tiers come from MICHELIN’s 2026 list for Austria, published in German on 18 September; its English page still shows the 2025 selection. The timing helps. The first Christmas markets open on 6 November, and the Opera Ball is on 4 February.

Three Keys and Two: the Sacher, two newcomers and five more
Hotel Sacher Wien, at Philharmonikerstrasse 4, has 152 rooms “with over 150 years of history behind it”, and MICHELIN places it “among the grandest of the old grand hotels”. The Rote Bar and the Grüne Bar are “a pair of fine-dining restaurants”, alongside the Café Sacher Wien, and the interiors are by Pierre-Yves Rochon. The detail runs “from the extravagant marble bathrooms to the little cubes of Sachertorte cake”.
The two newcomers both sit on or just off the Ring. Mandarin Oriental Vienna, at Riemergasse 7, has 138 rooms and suites, a spa with seven treatment rooms and an indoor pool, and the chef Thomas Seifried leads its four restaurants and bars, Le Sept among them. Anantara Palais Hansen, at Schottenring 24, has 152 rooms in a building designed by the architect Theophil Edvard von Hansen, an indoor pool, a spa with Thai treatments, the EDVARD restaurant and Theo’s Lounge & Bar, which “serves drinks in the palace’s vast inner courtyard”. “Much care was taken to preserve the building’s historical elements”, MICHELIN notes.
Hotel Imperial, on the Kärntner Ring since 1873, has 138 rooms, the Opus restaurant and the Café Imperial, and “all of the suites are serviced by private butlers”. Two of the Two-Key hotels are former banks. Park Hyatt Vienna, on Am Hof, has 146 rooms, and “the swimming pool makes the most of its setting down in the old bank vault”. Rosewood Vienna, with 104, stands on the Petersplatz, “across from the Kirche St. Peter, a couple of streets over from St. Stephen’s Cathedral”, with the Neue Hoheit brasserie and bar. The Amauris Vienna, a former noble residence on the Kärntner Ring with 62 rooms, has a spa reached by its original lift, with a glass-roofed pool. Outside the Ring, Hotel Sans Souci Wien occupies a building from 1872, with 71 rooms by the Yoo design group, a spa and an indoor pool. It “is as lighthearted as the name suggests”.
One Key: Spittelberg, Mariahilf and the Belvedere
The Ritz-Carlton, Vienna joins four 19th-century palaces on the Schubertring into a hotel of 202 rooms, and its 18-metre pool, “complete with underwater music, is the longest in Vienna”, according to MICHELIN. Pastamara, under the chef Ciccio Sultano, the Dstrikt steakhouse and the Atmosphere rooftop bar complete it. The Guesthouse Vienna, by the State Opera, has 39 rooms, and staying there “is more like having the keys to a spacious designer apartment with a few extra services”.
Beyond the Ring, Altstadt Vienna, at Kirchengasse 41, opened in 1991 and was redesigned by the architect Matteo Thun. It has 62 rooms and is “frequented by more locals than tourists and shoppers”. In Mariahilf, Hotel Josefine offers “real keys for your room, quaint rotary phones, a clawfoot tub, a complimentary bottle of wine” and an honesty bar with a vinyl collection, while Hotel MOTTO, Vienna has 91 rooms, the Chez Bernard restaurant and “a modern look at classic Parisian chic”. MICHELIN’s list prints the largest One-Key hotel as Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere. Its page now carries the name Hyatt Regency Vienna, with 303 rooms at Arsenalstraße 10, the Eugen21 restaurant and Aurora, a rooftop bar on the 16th floor.
Christmas markets and balls: the dates for winter 2026-27
The markets open in stages, according to the city’s tourist board. Stephansplatz and Schönbrunn come first, on 6 November, and Schönbrunn runs to 6 January. The Christkindlmarkt on the Rathausplatz runs from 13 November to 26 December, closing at 18:30 on 24 December. Am Hof and Spittelberg run from 13 November to 23 December, and the Belvedere market from 20 November to 31 December. The pairings are close: Am Hof is the square of the Park Hyatt’s address, Spittelberg is the area of the Sans Souci and the Altstadt, and the Belvedere market is near the Hyatt Regency. The ball season opens on 11 November. The Vienna Philharmonic Ball is on 21 January 2027, and the Opera Ball on Thursday 4 February, as in our 2027 calendar.
The Luxury.it perspective
Vienna’s list is a Ringstrasse list. Nine of the 14 are in the first district or on the Ring, and their rooms come from banks, a courthouse, palaces and a noble residence. The two newcomers follow the pattern. Winter is when to use it. For the markets, the Park Hyatt and the Rosewood put the Am Hof and Stephansplatz stalls a short walk from the door, and for the Opera Ball the Sacher and The Guesthouse are the hotels on the Opera’s doorstep. Six of the 14 have a pool, from the bank vault at the Park Hyatt to the 18-metre pool at the Ritz-Carlton.
