Michelin Keys 2026 Munich: all 11 hotels, from Marienplatz to Schwabing

By Alessandro ContiOctober 30, 20264 min readOpenings Desk

At the Bayerischer Hof, a hotel since 1841, the pool sits under a retractable glass roof. It is one of 11 MICHELIN Key hotels in Munich for 2026, the same 11 as in 2025 and at the same tiers. Three hold Two Keys: Mandarin Oriental Munich, The Charles and Rosewood Munich. The other eight hold One. None has Three. Together they have 1,597 rooms by our count, and six of them have a pool. The tiers come from MICHELIN’s 2026 list for Germany, published in German on 18 September; its English page for Germany still shows the 2025 selection.

Eleven hotels, three at Two Keys: the Munich list

Neighbourhoods are as MICHELIN labels them, and room counts come from the header of each hotel’s MICHELIN page.

Keys Hotel Neighbourhood Rooms
Two Mandarin Oriental Munich Altstadt-Lehel 73
Two Rocco Forte Charles Hotel Maxvorstadt 160
Two Rosewood Munich Altstadt-Lehel 132
One Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor Schwabing-Freimann 277
One Bayerischer Hof Munich Altstadt-Lehel 337
One BEYOND by Geisel Altstadt-Lehel 19
One Cortiina Hotel Altstadt-Lehel 75
One Do & Co Hotel Munich Maximilianstrasse 31
One Hotel München Palace Bogenhausen 89
One Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Altstadt-Lehel 298
One Koenigshof, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Munich Ludwigsvorstadt 106

Six of the 11 are in the old town, Altstadt-Lehel. The largest is the Bayerischer Hof, with 337 rooms, and the smallest is BEYOND by Geisel, with 19 on Marienplatz.

Two Keys: Mandarin Oriental, The Charles and Rosewood Munich

Mandarin Oriental Munich, at Neuturmstrasse 1, has 73 rooms in a 19th-century building that became a hotel in 1990, and it “is still widely referred to by its old name, the Rafael”. “Real antiques decorate rooms that are architecturally quirky in a way unique to buildings over a century old”, MICHELIN writes. The rooftop terrace has a heated outdoor pool. Its restaurant is Matsuhisa Munich, and Bar31 serves cocktails and champagne.

The Charles, which MICHELIN lists as Rocco Forte Charles Hotel, has 160 rooms at Sophienstrasse 28 in Maxvorstadt, and “many rooms look out over the Old Botanical Gardens”. It has a spa and a pool, and MICHELIN finds that, “far from being another beige business hotel, The Charles looks crisp and contemporary”. Rosewood Munich is “the first hotel in Germany for the venerable luxury brand”. Its 132 rooms occupy the former headquarters of the State Bank of Bavaria and the Palais Neuhaus-Preysing, with the Asaya Spa and its indoor pool, the Alpine-inspired Cuvilliés restaurant and the retro Bar Montez.

The old town: the Bayerischer Hof, the Vier Jahreszeiten and four more

The Bayerischer Hof on Promenadeplatz is the largest of the 11. Its Blue Spa was designed by Andrée Putman. There are three restaurants, Atelier, Trader Vic’s and the Garden-Restaurant, as well as “a nightclub and piano bar that regularly hosts live jazz acts”, and MICHELIN places it among “a few grand hotels that stand somehow apart from all the trends that come and go”. Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski, at Maximilianstrasse 17, has 298 rooms behind a “sandy-colored neoclassical façade”, a glass-enclosed rooftop pool and the Schwarzreiter restaurant.

Four smaller houses complete the centre. BEYOND by Geisel takes adults only, and its 19 rooms on Marienplatz share a living room with a library, an open-plan kitchen “serving breakfast and your favourite dish on request” and a 24-hour concierge, “all included in the price”. Cortiina Hotel, “just off the Marienplatz”, has 75 rooms, and MICHELIN calls it “minimal and austere throughout, and not in a cheap way either”. Do & Co Hotel Munich, a sister to the Do & Co in Vienna, occupies an unusual building in the centre with two restaurants. On Karlsplatz, Koenigshof has 106 rooms, a spa and an art collection with works by “well-known modern and contemporary artists”, plus “its highly regarded South American restaurant”.

Schwabing and Bogenhausen: the Andaz and the München Palace

Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor, on Leopoldstrasse in Schwabing, has 277 rooms and “the city’s highest rooftop bar”. “Spa lovers will appreciate the two-story spa and fitness center, with its view over the Alps from the sundeck”, MICHELIN adds, and the spa has an indoor pool. Across the river in Bogenhausen, Hotel München Palace is “a contemporary venture, not a historical preservation job”, with 89 rooms, a garden with restaurant seating and a fourth-floor roof terrace lounge, close to the Prinzregenten Theater and the Munich Philharmonic.

The Luxury.it perspective

Munich’s list did not change this year. That is its strength. The same 11 hotels hold the same tiers, and most of them are a short walk from Marienplatz. In winter the pools count, and six of the 11 have one: two under glass, at the Bayerischer Hof and on the roof of the Vier Jahreszeiten, and a heated one outdoors at the Mandarin Oriental. For a longer trip, the Alps are within a weekend’s reach, and the Austrian ski hotels are in our Austrian Alps list.
