Six Senses in 2027: Milan’s Brera, a 1563 palace near Madrid and the Loire

By Camilla De SantisOctober 8, 20263 min readDestinations Desk

Six Senses will open three hotels in Europe in 2027, according to a brand communique of 7 October. The first is in Milan, at Via Brera 19, with 68 rooms. The second, Quexigal Palace, is an estate near Madrid built in 1563 by Juan de Herrera, the architect of El Escorial. The third is in the Loire Valley, about 90 minutes south of Paris, with 88 suites and villas around a preserved chateau. Milan and Quexigal are announced for early 2027, the Loire for the third quarter. None of the three has an opening day yet.

Milan: 68 rooms on Via Brera

Milan will be the brand’s second city hotel in Italy, after Six Senses Rome, which opened on Piazza di San Marcello in 2023. On its page for the project, Six Senses gives the address as Via Brera 19, in the Brera quarter, and counts 68 guest rooms, 15 of them suites, two with plunge pools. The communique adds the water. It lists an indoor pool of 15 metres, two saunas, a hammam and a cold plunge, a rooftop pool, and one suite with a private terrace and its own pool of 12.5 metres. There will be a seasonal restaurant, a deli and two bars, one on the roof, and the brand’s page adds an Earth Lab and an internal courtyard. The communique sets the tone in French: Six Senses Milan will be “à la fois un épicentre et un refuge face au rythme effréné de Milan”, both an epicentre and a refuge from Milan’s frantic pace. The brand lists the materials too, from “the arabescato marble to the antique brass detailing, handmade smoked glass, textured ceilings, and mosaic borders”. No designer is named on Six Senses’ pages. Milan was already on our list of Europe’s openings for 2026 and 2027, where it moved from late 2026 to 2027.

Quexigal Palace, a 1563 estate near El Escorial

The Spanish address has the longest history. Juan de Herrera built El Quexigal in 1563, and Six Senses recalls that he also designed the nearby monastery of El Escorial, whose monks, the communique adds, later used the estate to make wine, oil and honey. The brand calls it “a royal village reborn”. There will be 13 suites, a presidential suite with private gardens and a fully serviced villa with five bedrooms. The spa goes into the former wine cellar, with a vitality pool, a halotherapy grotto, saunas and an ice bath, and the interiors are by Raphael Navot. The sky is part of the offer. Six Senses notes that, with the European Space Agency’s Cebreros station nearby, conditions are often good for looking at the stars, and it plans an observation deck.

Loire Valley: 88 suites and villas, and golf

The French project is the largest. The communique places it about 90 minutes south of Paris, around a preserved chateau and natural lakes, with 88 suites and villas for guests and 70 more residential villas for private ownership, which owners can put into the rental pool. It mentions one of Europe’s best-known golf courses, with a second 18-hole course planned, and a conference centre, riding, tennis, an organic farm and trails for walking and cycling. Neither the chateau nor the golf course is named. On Six Senses’ own site, the Loire Valley appears only among future destinations, so the third quarter of 2027 is the communique’s date.

Six Senses in Europe, from Rome to Porto Heli

The pipeline goes further. Six Senses Porto Heli, in Greece, is due in 2028 with around 60 rooms and suites, a three-bedroom villa and 12 branded villas for sale, according to the brand’s page. London is coming to The Whiteley in Bayswater, without a date, and Lake Como, Comporta, Lisbon and Megalonisos appear in the brand’s list of future destinations. Six Senses belongs to IHG Hotels & Resorts.

The Luxury.it perspective

Three openings, three ideas of the brand. Milan is a city hotel built around water, with a pool on the roof and another on a suite terrace in Brera. Quexigal is a Renaissance estate turned into 14 suites and a villa, under the stars. The Loire is a resort with houses for sale. For travellers planning 2027, Milan is the one to watch first, since early 2027 is close. For buyers, the Loire’s 70 villas will be the story once prices appear. For Italy, Milan will be the second Six Senses city, four years after Rome.
