Anne-Sophie Pic Opens Utopic Before Her New Paris Restaurant

By Camilla De SantisAugust 30, 20265 min readDestinations Desk

Anne-Sophie Pic returns to Paris this September in two stages, a fortnight apart.

Utopic, her new signature bar inside the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, opens on 4 September 2026. The gastronomic restaurant Anne-Sophie Pic Paris follows on 18 September at 2 place du Palais-Royal, with access connected to the Fondation’s building on rue de Rivoli.

Two dates. Two things.

A table at Utopic in the first half of September does not get you into the restaurant early, and the reservation systems are unlikely to be the same one.

Utopic opens first, with its own entrance

Utopic has its own door, on rue de Marengo. It is meant to stand as an independent expression of Pic’s work rather than as the restaurant’s waiting room.

The Fondation calls the bar a new field for her approach, putting mixology beside the philosophy she calls Impregnation: flavour built through aromatic layers, infusions and relationships you cannot see in the principal ingredient.

Mike Kassabian, who has run mixology for the Pic group since 2021, is developing the cocktails with Maël Jego, previously of Little Red Door.

A separate street entrance lets Utopic build its own room. Museum visitors either side of an exhibition, Parisians who want the bar and not a four-hour dinner.

The restaurant opens on 18 September

The restaurant opens officially on 18 September, in a dining room designed by Moinard Bétaille inside Jean Nouvel’s building for the Fondation.

This replaces a chapter rather than extending one. Gault & Millau reported that La Dame de Pic on rue du Louvre would close during 2026 while the chef prepared the new address a few streets away.

Time Out says the menu will differ from both the flagship in Valence and the old La Dame de Pic. Public material promises original dishes shaped by the Fondation’s artworks and by Impregnation, and no complete menu has appeared.

The Fondation is part of the restaurant’s identity

An art institution, not a hotel and not a street-level restaurant.

That gives her changing exhibitions, artists and curatorial ideas to work against over years. It carries an obvious risk too. A weak museum restaurant leans on the institution’s reputation while the food stays entirely disconnected from anything on the walls.

The official language proposes a dialogue between cooking and art. Whether it is real depends on the menu and the service rather than on the architecture and the launch campaign.

Do not assume a museum ticket and a table are connected. Exhibitions, Utopic and the restaurant are three operations with three sets of hours and conditions.

The new location changes Pic’s Paris audience

La Dame de Pic was a chef’s restaurant on rue du Louvre and nothing else. The new address sits inside a cultural destination that draws its own traffic, minutes from the Louvre, Palais-Royal and the heart of Parisian luxury retail.

Which puts her work in front of people who did not wake up looking for a tasting menu. Collectors, foundation patrons, art travellers and private clients will meet the restaurant through the institution rather than through the restaurant press.

Utopic widens it again. A bar lets the Maison Pic name into shorter appointments: a drink before the theatre, a client meeting, an evening built around an exhibition rather than around dinner.

Two rooms, related but never interchangeable. Get that balance right and it becomes the strongest thing about the project.

What is confirmed before reservations begin

Established publicly so far:

  • Utopic opens on 4 September 2026;
  • Anne-Sophie Pic Paris opens on 18 September 2026;
  • the address is inside the Fondation Cartier at 2 place du Palais-Royal;
  • Utopic has a dedicated entrance on rue de Marengo;
  • Moinard Bétaille designed the restaurant interior;
  • the food and drinks will draw on Pic’s philosophy of Impregnation;
  • the new restaurant is a separate concept from La Dame de Pic.

All confirmed by the Fondation, by official Paris tourism information and by French coverage published this week.

Several practical details remain unpublished

The official material still says nothing public about:

  • the tasting-menu structure;
  • the final menu price;
  • wine or non-alcoholic pairings;
  • Utopic’s cocktail list and pricing;
  • weekly closing days;
  • lunch and dinner service times;
  • deposit and cancellation conditions;
  • private-room or group capacity;
  • the relationship between exhibition hours and restaurant access.

The official Paris tourism listing puts the average à la carte spend above €60. Treat that as a category, not as a forecast of the tasting menu.

Wait for the table in writing before you book the flight. An announced opening date is not a reservation.

No Michelin distinction transfers automatically

Her reputation and her Michelin record will set expectations from the first night. The new restaurant inherits none of the distinctions held by Valence or by La Dame de Pic.

A star belongs to one restaurant at one address, reassessed on the guide’s own schedule. Anne-Sophie Pic Paris may well earn one. Until then it is not starred.

Judge the opening weeks on service, on menu coherence, on the wine direction, and on whether the dining room has any real relationship with the Fondation around it.

How to plan the opening month

Come for the cocktails and Utopic takes you from 4 September, subject to whatever reservation system it settles on. Come for the restaurant and the date is the 18th.

Opening week will fill with press, hospitality people, Maison Pic clients and Fondation patrons. A date later in September buys you a more representative dinner and a kitchen that has already run a fortnight of service.

Anyone coming for Paris Fashion Week should book now. Palais-Royal and the Louvre put this address inside every fashion, jewellery and private-client itinerary in the city, brand name on the door or not.

Declare dietary requirements before you confirm. Her cooking runs on infusions, broths and aromatic layers whose ingredients no short menu description will reveal.

Luxury.it perspective

This is not a Paris restaurant reopening under a new name. Pic is putting two formats inside an art institution and giving the bar its own date, its own door and its own creative team.

Utopic tests whether her flavour language survives translation into a glass. The restaurant then has to prove that its relationship with contemporary art amounts to more than the view from the table, which is a far harder thing to demonstrate over a full season than over an opening week.

The dates are clear. Utopic opens on 4 September. Anne-Sophie Pic Paris follows on 18 September. Everything about the quality of the experience remains to be established through operation.
