Michelin Keys 2026 French Alps: all 22 ski hotels, from Courchevel to Chamonix

By Alessandro ContiOctober 27, 20267 min readOpenings Desk

Four MICHELIN Key hotels stand in the Jardin Alpin quarter of Courchevel 1850, and two of them are new. They are among the 22 Key hotels that MICHELIN’s 2026 selection gives the ski resorts of the French Alps, in ten resorts across Savoie and Haute-Savoie. Three hold Three Keys, four hold Two and 15 hold One. Courchevel has eight, Megève four and Val d’Isère three. Five names are new: Rosewood Courchevel Le Jardin Alpin enters at Two Keys, and Airelles Courchevel, Le K2 Altitude, Armancette at Saint-Gervais and Airelles Val-d’Isère enter at One. The Three-Key hotels are the same three as in 2025, Cheval Blanc Courchevel, Le K2 Palace and the Four Seasons in Megève. Together the 22 have 864 rooms, by our count. The tiers come from MICHELIN’s complete list of the French Keys, published in French on 18 September. Its English page for France still shows the 2025 selection.

Tiers and towns are as MICHELIN prints them, and room counts are those in the header of each hotel’s MICHELIN page. The resorts of Isère and the Hautes-Alpes have no Key hotel.

The Three Valleys, with Courchevel, Méribel, Saint-Martin-de-Belleville and Val Thorens, hold 11 of the 22. Altapura, in Val Thorens, is the largest, with 88 rooms. Flocons de Sel and Zannier Hotels Le Chalet, both in Megève, are the smallest, with 12 each.

Courchevel 1850: eight Key hotels, four on the Jardin Alpin

Cheval Blanc Courchevel “is positioned at the top of Courchevel 1850, looking out over the slopes”, MICHELIN writes. It is ski-in, ski-out. “Staff warm your ski boots before you slide away for mountain adventures”, the page adds. It has 36 rooms, a Guerlain spa and an indoor infinity pool. Le K2 Palace, on route des Clarines, joins a main building and “a series of suite-chalets”, some with “a private indoor pool with waterfalls, a hammam, a full staff, including a private chef”, and a lift gives direct access to the ski area. It opens from late November to mid-April.

At Two Keys, Aman Le Mélézin stands at 310 rue de Bellecôte, with 31 rooms and the slopes “just a few meters away”. Its butlers “will have your skis waiting on the piste first thing in the morning”. “Even upscale European ski resorts don’t usually come as elegant as Aman Le Mélézin”, the inspectors write. L’Apogée Courchevel, on the Jardin Alpin, overlooks “a former Olympic ski slope” at the edge of the Vanoise National Park, and MICHELIN calls it “a getaway for experienced skiers and other lovers of alpine beauty”. The newcomer is Rosewood Courchevel Le Jardin Alpin, the brand’s first winter resort: “the brand decided to go big by opening the 51-key hotel”, with an Asaya spa and the Salta restaurant, which “serves a comforting combination of Northern Italian dishes and French desserts”.

At One Key, Airelles Courchevel “lies right at the foot of the Jardin-Alpin run”, with rooms “decorated in a remarkably authentic antique style”, a La Mer spa and several restaurants. Le K2 Altitude, on rue de l’Altiport, is a cluster of chalets with “old wood fittings, warm fabrics and fireplaces”, and its restaurant, L’Altitude, holds a MICHELIN Star. Le K2 Djola has 24 rooms. It is “rather on the intimate side for an Alpine ski hotel”.

Megève, Saint-Gervais, Chamonix and La Clusaz

Megève has the same four Key hotels as in 2025, in the same tiers. The Four Seasons Resort Megève, at Three Keys on the Mont d’Arbois, “contains a mere 55 rooms and suites, a fraction of what you might find in a comparable hotel”, with an “expansive Roman-style spa, complete with a heated indoor-outdoor pool”. Flocons de Sel sits high above the resort, with 12 rooms. “All have bathtubs and private terraces facing the surrounding mountains”, MICHELIN writes, and a free shuttle runs to the nearby lift. Les Fermes de Marie is “a collection of traditional farmhouses and chalets lovingly restored”, with 70 rooms and the Pure Altitude spa, open in winter from December to early April. Zannier Hotels Le Chalet has twelve rooms and “a huge indoor swimming pool, a great spa”.

Armancette, new at One Key, is the only Key hotel in Saint-Gervais. It “finds itself in the village of Saint-Nicolas de Véroce”, which “is connected by ski lifts to the vast Evasion Mont-Blanc network of slopes”, and has 19 rooms and suites, a spa with indoor and outdoor pools facing Mont Blanc, and a Starred restaurant, La Table d’Armante. “The most storied hotel in Chamonix is over a hundred years old”, MICHELIN writes of Le Hameau Albert 1er, which keeps an indoor-outdoor pool open all year and “the MICHELIN-Starred Albert 1er”. Au Cœur du Village, in La Clusaz, is “a luxurious and stylish 60-room hotel complete with an expansive crystal-themed spa”.

Val d’Isère, Tignes and the Three Valleys

Val d’Isère has three. Le K2 Chogori, at Two Keys with 21 rooms, is placed so that “the village and the lifts are within easy walking distance”, and has the Goji Spa by Nescens. Airelles Val-d’Isère, new at One Key, is a “proper ski-in ski-out resort hotel” with a “Guerlain spa complete with a 20-meter pool”; five of its 41 units are apartments with their own butler. Les Barmes de l’Ours has 76 rooms on four floors, each with its own theme, and “the MICHELIN-Starred La Table de l’Ours”, along with “a ski shop, a game room, and even a two-lane bowling alley”. In Tignes, Maison Bouvier, Les Suites, at Val Claret, is “a 24-room luxury boutique hotel” with “the fine-dining Ursus, recipient of one MICHELIN Star”.

The Three Valleys have four more. Le Kaïla, on Rue des Jeux Olympiques in Méribel, has 38 rooms, an indoor pool and a smoking lounge for “quality cigars and cognac”. La Bouitte, in the hamlet of Saint-Marcel at Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, is “set mere minutes from the Trois Vallées lifts”, with 15 rooms, a spa “with treatments inspired by the mountains” and a restaurant with two MICHELIN Stars. Altapura, in Val Thorens, is ski-in, ski-out, with “the Pure Altitude spa, with its seven treatment rooms and heated indoor pool”. It opens from late November to mid-April.

When the hotels and the lifts open

These are winter houses. MICHELIN’s pages give seasonal windows for five of them: Le K2 Palace and Altapura from late November to mid-April, Aman Le Mélézin from mid-December to mid-April, Les Fermes de Marie from December to early April, and Airelles Courchevel from December through the spring. None gives exact days for the 2026-27 season. Aman’s page also lists its gala dinners, at 355 euros a head on 25 December and 536 euros on 1 January. The lifts start in late November at Val Thorens and Val d’Isère and in early December at Courchevel and Méribel, as in our guide to the Alpine palace openings.

The Luxury.it perspective

The French Alps list rewards small houses. Thirteen of the 22 have 40 rooms or fewer, and the largest has 88. Courchevel 1850 is the centre, with eight Key hotels and five of the seven at Two or Three Keys, but the list runs well beyond it, from a hamlet in the Belleville valley to a century-old house in Chamonix. The new names come from houses already present in the Alps, with Airelles in Courchevel and Val d’Isère and a fourth K2 address, plus Rosewood’s first winter resort. For the season ahead, the choice is between the scale of the Three Valleys, the farmhouses of Megève and the high villages of the Tarentaise. Switzerland’s Key hotels, from St. Moritz to Gstaad, are in our Swiss list.
