Waldorf Astoria has arrived in Malaysia with 268 suites in Kuala Lumpur. Hilton unveiled the hotel on 29 October: an all-suite building of 23 floors at 73 Jalan Raja Chulan, in the Bukit Bintang district of the city’s Golden Triangle, with suites from 80 to 745 square metres. It is the brand’s first hotel in the country and joins a portfolio that Hilton puts at 40 properties. Reservations opened in June. No rates have been published. The details are in Hilton’s announcement, which calls the hotel “a residential-style all-suite urban retreat”.

There are no standard rooms. The release lists “268 generously appointed suites”, “ranging from 80 to 745 square metres”, so the largest is more than nine times the size of the smallest. The spa covers 2,275 square metres over two floors. For events, the hotel has 3,745 square metres in all, with a ballroom of 1,545 square metres that takes up to 2,500 guests for receptions. The Petronas Twin Towers are the landmark nearby, and the interiors are by the studio Deboss Collective.

Five restaurants and bars are named. Jean-Georges Vongerichten is behind three of them, JG KL, abc kitchens KL and The Bar by JG. Yaari serves Indian cooking shaped by the chef Garima Arora, and The Istana is the breakfast room. Hilton’s autumn preview of its openings also named Peacock Alley. Alan Watts, Hilton’s president for Asia Pacific, said the brand “has long represented the pinnacle of luxury”.

Kuala Lumpur’s luxury hotels gather around the Golden Triangle, and Waldorf Astoria has taken the all-suite route there. Every room is a suite. The top one measures 745 square metres, and the chef line-up puts Jean-Georges and Garima Arora under one roof.
